The highly anticipated live-action Naruto , based on Masashi Kishimoto's work, remains shrouded in uncertainty. Despite being in development for almost a decade, the project has not shown any concrete progress and may take even longer to materialize. Recently, an interview reignited fans' concerns.

In an interview with ScreenRant , screenwriter Tasha Huo revealed that there are no updates on the film. Huo, who finalized her version of the script in August 2024, stated that she would like to share some news, but production remains stalled.

The main reason for the delay seems to be the busy schedule of director Destin Daniel Cretton , responsible for Shang-Chi , producer of Wonder Man and director of Spider-Man: Brand New Day (2026). With so many simultaneous projects in the MCU, Cretton has not yet been able to start the pre-production process for Naruto .

Despite the lack of news, Tasha Huo reaffirmed his confidence in the director, highlighting his respect for the original work and his ability to capture the emotional essence of Naruto and his relationships. Huo also stated that the project "comes from a love for the franchise," demonstrating optimism despite the challenges.

For now, there is no announced cast, defined schedule, or expected start date for filming. The live-action project remains only in the idea stage — albeit with a completed script and an experienced production team, including Avi Arad and Cretton's Hisako company.

Despite the enthusiasm of the creative team and the affection of those involved for Kishimoto's work, the live-action Naruto adaptation remains stalled. The adaptation is only expected to gain momentum once the director, a key figure in the production, has his schedule freed up after leaving the MCU.

Until then, fans will have to wait — and hope — that the project finally goes into production in the coming years.
