Hey everyone! Hotaru here.
I was going to hold off on this review a little longer, but I can't contain my excitement! You all know I'm a huge fan of Overlord , Kugane Maruyama's work, with So-bin's impeccable art. So, imagine my excitement when I received Volume 16 at home before the official JBC release. Of course, I wasn't going to let this opportunity pass and I needed to share my thoughts with you!
This volume shines alongside the other 15 I already have in my collection (and let's not forget the four light novel volumes I proudly keep on my shelf). I almost feel like a member of the Great Tomb of Nazarick, I'm such a big fan! haha
Okay, let's get down to business. For those unfamiliar, Overlord is a dark and captivating story about Ainz Ooal Gown, a player trapped in an RPG world where he assumes the role of the powerful ruler of the Tomb of Nazarick. But he's not just a villain or a hero… And that becomes clear, especially in this volume.

Volume 16 ( Episodes 62 to 66 )
Volume 16 focuses on one of the most epic scenes from the third season of the anime – and it takes place around episode 8. Here, the Foresight adventure team ends up in the Nazarick arena, which is protected by the guardian twins, Aura and Mare. They soon realize they will have to face none other than Ainz himself. The tension is palpable, even more so when the leader of Foresight tries to appeal to Ainz!
Spoilers
This volume contains one of the most exciting parts of the entire work for me, with an ending that's a real gut punch. The Foresight team, even without hope, tries at least to give young Arche a chance to escape, as she was only on this dangerous mission to support her sisters.
Ainz, in a twisted act of compassion, allows her to try to escape, but orders Shalltear to capture her and give her a quick and "painless" death. In the end, Arche's resistance is futile, and the vampire ends her life. The worst part is the scene with Arche's sisters, waiting for her return… which never happens. It's too tense!
This was, without a doubt, one of the volumes I was most looking forward to, and it exceeded my expectations. Thank you so much, JBC, for providing this experience of checking out this story before its official release!
